 Job Title:  UNIX Administrator
 Job Description:  STEC is currently recruiting for a UNIX Administrator who will be a member of the team administering the UNIX/LINUX infrastructure of our corporate IT organization.

The UNIX Administrator will be working in a multi-platform UNIX environment comprising HP-UX, Linux, Solaris and other flavors of UNIX. This candidate will be primarily working in the UNIX environment consisting of several RISC and Intel based servers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Installation, maintenance, and upkeep of grid computing systems.

Installation, maintenance, and upkeep of Virtual Servers, Host and Client.Knowledge of RAID, performance management, security and shell scripting experience is necessary in this position. Knowledge of Storage Area Networks, centralized storage devices and EMC Networker are a plus. He/she will perform hands-on troubleshooting of complex problems, resolve operational issues and interact with vendors for hardware and software fault diagnosis.

He/she and the rest of the UNIX admin team are responsible for installation and maintenance of Linux load balancers, Apache software, the Web Servers, SSL, NAS Servers, Name Servers, Samba, ESX, and other related Hardware and/or Software.
 Qualifications:  Candidates must possess strong oral and written communication skills. This position interacts with various technical teams and our Engineering and business groups.

The qualified candidate will assist the UNIX Systems administration team during the Sarbanes-Oxley control activity project. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


Desired Background
The ideal candidate will have 5 + years of experience in UNIX systems administration (Linux experience is preferred) with understanding of OS installations and upgrades is required.

BSCS or comparable degree/experience


Language Skills
Ability to read, write and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and emails in English.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to internal customers and other employees of the organization.


Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
