40-pin Vertical IDE Flash Module with Enclosure

STEC Flash Modules provide non-volatile, solid-state storage ideal for embedded applications. With built-in wear leveling algorithms, on-the-fly ECC, and no moving parts, Flash Modules provide superior data integrity and reliability in a compact design. STEC's IFM is a True IDE device (also available in USB) providing the perfect solution for a variety of embedded applications including Blade Servers, Point of Sale terminals, Casino Gaming machines, Single Board Computers, and Networking Equipment, all of which require high-performance, uncompromising reliability, and a storage solution that lasts for the long life of these embedded systems.

New applications for embedded flash modules are rapidly emerging due to the low cost per megabyte, lower power consumption, and inherently greater reliability than rotating hard drives. Most applications running embedded operating systems such as VxWorks, Windows, XP/embedded, and Linux don't have large data storage requirements, and a cost savings can be immediately realized.  The standard 40-pin or 44-pin IDE interface ensures compatibility and eliminates the need for proprietary software drivers or connectors. STEC's IDE Flash Modules also include built-in content security that can be implemented via a unique serial number embedded in the controller firmware. Optional layers of security including write protection and password-protected secured partitioning are also available. The vertical oriented IFM is also available with an optional enclosure for particularly rugged environments or where installation and handling poses risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.

HIGH RELIABILITY
IFM

STEC's proprietary state-of-the-art flash memory controllers incorporated in both the UFM and IFM, provide high data reliability and endurance. The built-in ECC engine can detect up to 5-byte errors and correct up to 4-byte errors, while sophisticated wear leveling algorithms guarantee +2M Write/Erase Cycles. Based on SLC Flash and high quality components, the STEC Flash Module solutions provide an unparalleled MTBF of more than 8,000,000 hrs.

HIGH PERFORMANCE
IFM

High performance is ensured via SLC NAND flash technology and state-of-the-art controller technology. The USB Flash Module provides even higher performance than legacy IDE, with sustained read speeds up to 14MB/sec and sustained write speeds up to 12MB/sec.

COMPATIBILITY
IFM

For applications requiring an IDE interface, compatibility is ensured by the Flash Module's standard 40-pin and 44-pin IDE interfaces - there are no proprietary software drivers or connectors required.

FORM FACTOR
IFM

Flash Modules are designed for embedded applications and are therefore small and compact. The UFM is available with a standard 10-pin 2.54mm connector or a 2.0mm low profile connector, specifically suited for designs that have Z-height limitations.

STANDARD COMPLIANCE
IFM

Both the UFM and IFM comply with CE requirements, FCC standards, and has been approved by the UL organization. The UFM is USB 2.0 certified, and both modules are also provided in lead-free (RoHS-6) version only.
